Wednesday 24/10
Was sent a link to a video
Think I’m going to propose to the students that we do a collection of photos to the lyrics that they wrote last term, instead of trying to film a music clip as we don’t have access to some of the areas that we need
Mrs Mathieson
Today’s double
The girls went with Ms Thompson and started the painting of the cow. With the paint on it looks very different, looks good.
The boys stayed with Mrs Mathieson to work on the music video. LOL they are having to sing
The girls are going to sing the chorus.
We have a practice run during our next lesson on Friday
Next Tuesday we will be making the music video, down at the Ag plot
they doing a voice over on Wednesday – so we’ll see how it goes.

14/09/12 Cow designs
Cara G. - We should really grow cotton inside of the cow, that'd be epic! Kate M- In that case we need to figure out how :)
Stuart Mc – You could cut it open and put lights in it and make it a greenhouse ?
Jackie B - roller skates would be cool lol
Lianna G to make the cotton stand you could use tutu material?
Beau B. Instead of tutu material cause it’s not cotton, could we use wire?
13/08/12 Miscommunication hahahahaha

10/08/12 task 1 the Archibull
08/08/12 Starting the Archibull
To have a better look at what this task is about check this link out ART4AG details
We have to complete a variety of task including
1. this blog – at least once a week
2. video or a PowerPoint presentation here is a link to Colo HS – cotton
3. the cow itself
Have a look at the resources and we call talk about it in class.
15/08/12 Meeting Milambaraay
Designing the cow
Today we used templates to design parts of the cow and Ms Thompson is helping us by guiding us with ideas. So far we have decided to cut out the middle session and make it a looking glass type thing – where we’ll be growing cotton
The legs are going to be of an aboriginal design and the body is to represent the farm to clothing process and how that helps this industry be sustainable within out community. It will also have a tutu made from different cotton materials.
Not everyone is getting involved in the designing, those that aren’t are helping to design the video and polish the lyrics for the song

Monday 10 September 2012–Food Consumption and Hunger
Today we where asked to investigate the hunger situation around the world, and identify factors that have contributed to world hunger, and if there is anything that we can do about it!
We where given two article and had to read one of them and answer some questions based on what we thought
A wicked problem http://chdairiesdiary.wordpress.com/2012/07/26/
A culture of waste http://chdairiesdiary.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/
We also played a simulation called 3rd World Farmer http://www.3rdworldfarmer.com/
What factors have contributed to hunger world wide
- War
- Not enough adults to work, as they have been killed, maimed or conscripted.- Environmental factors
- Competing sides burning or destroying farm resources, so the other-side can’t get it.
- Drought- Availability of water
- Flood
- Fire
- Weather conditions - El Niño and LA Niña
-Pests
- Without access to water there is no crops, therefore no food or seed for the following season.- Availability of resources
- Such as seed
- Land
- Fertilisers
- Labour
- Equipment
- Money
What is the hunger situation at home and abroad?
Australia
I was surprised to read that Australia produces enough food for 60 million people, and even though we only have a population of 18million, there are Australian who are still hungry? Also that we waste 4 million tonnes of food because we cook too much, it goes off in the fridge, it doesn’t look like it should (not up to the standard of Woolworths or Coles [the produce is too big/ small or not the correct colour]) or we just don’t eat it and put it in the bin.
World Wide
In the World, 100’s of 1000’s of people are starving or dying of starvation a day. We recently watched the video about the Indian government providing hot meals to students and how American’s eat up to 3 hambugers a week.
Like Australia most developed countries have the same wasteful culture. This is due mostly to the fact that food is so cheap, and is the cheapest it has ever been. This cheap extremely proceeded food is causing overindulgence and high numbers morbidly obese adults and children. While in other counties children are suffering from many different disease caused by nutrient deficiencies. The problem is the price of food doesn’t reflect the true cost of the food. If this doesn’t change then in a few decades there may not be any farmers to produce the food!
Unfortunately the above factors listed in the section What factors have contributed to hunger world wide affect the people in developing counties greater than in developed countries. Developing countries have the most need as their populations are higher.
So what can we do as people to help from Australia.
1. be more aware of what and how we eat.
2. try and follow the food heichary
3. help those that need it. The link below is an Australian organisation that is involved with help Australian's in need http://www.foodbank.org.au/
4. We started a FREERICE group, as we study and answer questions correctly 10 grains of rice are donated to developing countries. Freerice is a non-profit website that is owned by and supports the United Nations World Food Programme. Go to http://freerice.com/ and start today, see if you can beat us

05/11/12 Nearly there
The paper mashae was part of the hardest bit, as the sides wouldn’t stay up! But we got there in the end.
A teacher asked us how does this represent ‘clothing and feeding out community in a day’, We responded “how many different animals and crops can you see?”
Teacher “Ummm… one the bull?”
Us LOL “We have dairy, beef & crops!” “It represents our community through the Aboriginal designs, the red and black soils, the mountain range (Warrabungles). The feed and clothe – dairy for the black spots/ clouds, beef for the abstract bulls, crops for the yellow crops of wheat/ canola, we are putting on cotton wool to represent as sheep, and different cotton to represent all the stages it has from harvesting to colouring”
Teacher “ that’s great, you guys have done well”
Below is the transformation it has taken over the past week

14SEPT12–What does it take to sustainably feed and clothe my community for a day?
Gunnedah Statistics Source: ABS,
Population 12,353 ERP (Estimated Residential Population in 2011, )
NSW
Population in NSW is according to Census is 7,302,174 ERP.
The greater Sydney
Population approx 4,600,000
therefore Gunnedah is
0.169% of the entire NSW population and
0.2685% of Sydney's population
very small in the whole scheme of things.
How much does it cost to feed and clothe our community?

on the whole without the Agricultural sector we would starve and not have any clothes.
To clothe and feed all the people in NSW with cotton based products, we need 45,000 ha of Cotton to be grown a day. Currently there is 157,000 ha of cotton grown in Australia in 2006/07 growing season (Cotton Australia, 2012), which equals a shortfall of 16Million hectares a year.
As a class we believe cotton is extremely important as it is products are extremely versatile, from clothing to food stuffs
Most of what our town needs to survive each day, we can grow or produce here. There are some things such as Dairy and Pork products that we can produce just not very well due to temperature extremes.

21/09/12 Video Discussion
Today we decided how to proceed with our video.
And as a class we though “we can do that”
We watch a parody buy the FarmBros –“Farming and I know it”
After watching the FarmBros and the little kid, the class decided to do a parody.
So we downloaded the instrumental to “Sexy and I know it” by LMFO and the Lyric from the FramBros youtube site and started adapting their song to fit our topic COTTON
This is what we came up with, still needs a bit a of work, but major hurdle now it decide who sings/ performs/ videos and where do we get cotton from????? The Carroll Cotton gin might be able to help with part of the video, regarding the bales and the actually gin.

Lyrics:
When I'm up at seven, the sunrise gives me a glimpse of heaven
I get right to work, a farmer's life can be a little berserk yeah
This is how I roll, harvesting cotton is my heart & soul?
In November the seeds we sow
To keep the picker going we need the dough
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Clothe Everybody
Gonna Help Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Clothe Everybody
Gonna Help Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)
When I step in the gin (yeah)
This is what I see (Uh-huh)
All the cotton bales staring at me
I got passion for my cotton and I ain't afraid to show it show it show it show it
Cotton and I grow it
When I'm in my tractor, I got more power than an arc reactor
And when I'm in the field, I try to raise crops to maximum yield
This is how I roll, without me the world would be outta control
The hours I work, there is no equal
Gotta feed the mouths of hungry people
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Clothe Everybody
Gonna Help Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)
Gotta Feed Everybody
Gotta Clothe Everybody
Gonna Help Everybody
(Uh-Huh) I work out (side!)
When I step to the lab (yeah)
This is what I see (Uh-huh)
All the big machinery staring at me
I got passion for my cotton and I ain't afraid to show it show it show it show it
Cotton and I grow it
Water, water, water, water, water (yeah)
